SEOUL · CYCLING
Seoul Bike—usually called Ttareungi—is the city’s public bicycle system. It is different from app-based electric bikes operated by private companies, so the account, price, riding zone and return rules are not interchangeable.
Using Ttareungi
- Install the official Seoul Bike app and switch to a supported language.
- Choose a pass and complete payment.
- Use the station map to find an available bicycle.
- Inspect the tires, brakes, saddle and lights.
- Scan the QR code in the app and wait for the lock to release.
- At the end, return the bicycle at an official station and confirm the return in the app.
The rental time is not your whole day
A pass normally allows rides of a stated duration. Returning within that duration and renting again may be possible, but keeping the same bicycle beyond the included ride time can create extra charges. Read the current pass conditions before starting.
Shared electric bikes are separate
Private e-bike operators may require identity or phone verification, a supported payment card and parking inside a marked service zone. Check the estimated fare, battery, geofenced operating area and parking rules in that operator’s app before unlocking.
Ttareungi is Seoul’s public bicycle service; a private shared e-bike is a different product. A Ttareungi pass does not unlock another company’s e-bike.
Ride defensively
- Use bicycle paths where available and watch for pedestrians.
- Wear a helmet and do not use a phone or headphones while moving.
- Slow down at crossings, riverside ramps and crowded paths.
- Avoid riding in heavy rain, snow or poor visibility.
- Do not finish a rental until the app confirms a successful return or parking photo.
